Every week has seven days, and in German, the days of the week are called Wochentage (say it like: VOH-khen-tah-geh). One week is die Woche (say it like: dee VOH-kheh). Let's learn all seven days!

The German days have fascinating hidden meanings:

• Montag = Moon day (Mond = moon) — just like English "Monday"!
• Dienstag = Thing's day (an old assembly day)
• Mittwoch = Middle of the week (Mitte = middle, Woche = week)
• Donnerstag = Thor's day (Donner = thunder) — just like English "Thursday"!
• Freitag = Freya's day (the Norse goddess) — just like English "Friday"!
• Samstag = Sabbath day
• Sonntag = Sun day (Sonne = sun) — just like English "Sunday"!

Try chanting the days of the week to a clapping rhythm:
