Songs and rhymes are one of the very best ways to learn a new language! When words have a melody and a rhythm, your brain remembers them much more easily. This is why children all over the world — including children in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland — learn language through songs and rhymes.

How Songs Help Your Brain#

When you sing a song:

• The melody helps you remember the words — it is like a hook in your brain!
• The rhythm makes pronunciation easier — you naturally say words at the right speed.
• Repetition — singing the same song many times — stores the words in your long-term memory.
• Songs make you feel happy, and happy brains learn better!

This is why German kindergartens — Kindergärten — use songs every single day. Children who grow up singing German songs become very natural German speakers.
