What Are Primary Colors?#

Colors are everywhere! Look around your classroom. What colors do you see? Today we are going to learn about primary colors.

Primary colors are very special. They are the first colors. You cannot make them by mixing other colors together. There are only three primary colors:

  • Red — like apples and fire trucks
  • Yellow — like the sun and bananas
  • Blue — like the sky and the ocean

Think of primary colors like the bosses of all colors. Every other color in the world comes from these three colors. Is that not amazing?

Red Is Everywhere!#

Red is a bold and bright color. When you see red, it stands out. Strawberries are red. Stop signs are red. Your heart is sometimes drawn in red. Red makes us feel excited and energetic.

Yellow Shines Bright!#

Yellow is a cheerful color. The sun is yellow, and it gives us light and warmth. Sunflowers are yellow. Lemons are yellow. Yellow makes us think of happiness and sunshine.

Blue Is Cool and Calm#

Blue is a calm and peaceful color. The sky is blue during a clear day. The ocean is blue. Blueberries are blue. Blue makes us feel relaxed and peaceful.

Remembering Primary Colors#

Here is a fun way to remember: R-Y-B — Red, Yellow, Blue! You can clap three times while saying each color. Try it now:

Clap — Red! Clap — Yellow! Clap — Blue!

When you are painting or drawing, you always start with these three colors. They are your most important tools. Take care of your red, yellow, and blue crayons or paints — you will use them the most!

Now you know what primary colors are. In our next lesson, we will learn what happens when you mix them together. Get ready for some color magic!
