We've established two things. First, there's a real gap between what current AI systems can do and what AGI would require — the gaps in principled reasoning, long-horizon planning, and metacognition are real. Second, AlphaZero demonstrated something important: a single system can reach superhuman performance across structurally similar domains, so some generalization is possible.

The question now is: how do you get from AlphaZero's kind of generalization to the fuller kind AGI requires? Three serious approaches are being pursued. None has won.
