Mathematics
Grade 4 Mathematics: Students extend place value understanding, master multi-digit multiplication and division, work with fractions and decimals, and explore geometry including angles and line plots.
Number and Operations
Multi-Digit Multiplication
Students multiply up to four-digit numbers by one-digit numbers and two-digit numbers by two-digit numbers using place value strategies and the standard algorithm.
Multi-Digit Division
Students divide up to four-digit dividends by one-digit divisors, interpreting remainders in context. They use place value reasoning, repeated subtraction, and the standard long-division algorithm.
Equivalent Fractions and Ordering
Students generate and recognize equivalent fractions using visual fraction models and multiplication/division. They compare fractions with different numerators and denominators by finding common denominators.
Decimals and Place Value
Students are introduced to decimal notation for fractions with denominators of 10 and 100, linking fractions to decimal representations. They compare decimals to hundredths and locate them on a number line.
Geometry, Measurement, and Data
Angles and Lines
Students identify, measure, and draw angles using a protractor, classifying them as acute, right, obtuse, or straight. They explore parallel and perpendicular lines and lines of symmetry.
Two-Dimensional Figures
Students classify quadrilaterals and triangles by their properties including angle measures and side lengths. They identify and draw lines of symmetry in two-dimensional figures.
Measurement Conversion
Students convert between units within the same measurement system (customary and metric), including length, weight/mass, and liquid volume. They solve multi-step word problems requiring unit conversions.
Line Plots and Data Analysis
Students create and interpret line plots displaying measurement data in fractions of a unit. They answer questions by adding and subtracting fractions directly from line plot data.
