Organized Sports: Rules and Gameplay
Learning the rules and basic strategies of organized sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Applying skills in game situations and understanding the roles of different positions.
Striking and Fielding Games
Developing skills for striking and fielding games such as rounders or simplified baseball. Practicing batting, throwing, catching, and base running in modified game settings.
Net and Wall Games
Playing modified versions of net and wall games such as badminton and tennis. Focusing on sending (hitting or serving) and receiving (returning) skills and understanding court boundaries.
Fitness and Conditioning
Cardiovascular Endurance
Participating in sustained aerobic activities such as distance running, jump rope, and circuit training to build cardiovascular fitness. Understanding how the heart and lungs work during exercise.
Flexibility and Stretching
Performing a variety of static and dynamic stretches targeting major muscle groups. Learning why flexibility is important for athletic performance and injury prevention.
Strength and Muscular Endurance
Developing age-appropriate muscular strength and endurance through bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, sit-ups, and lunges. Monitoring improvement over time using simple fitness records.
Character and Wellness
Sportsmanship and Fair Play
Demonstrating respect for teammates, opponents, and officials during games and activities. Discussing the qualities of good sportsmanship including encouragement, acceptance of outcomes, and playing by the rules.
Healthy Lifestyle Choices
Connecting regular physical activity to long-term health benefits including reduced risk of chronic disease and improved mental well-being. Identifying physical activities enjoyed outside school and creating a personal activity plan.
